The sports fields, courts and other facilities will be filled with the joy of movement and physical exercise when fans of 20 sports disciplines as well as their clubs move to the new Hippos at the end of 2027. At Hippos, athletes and enthusiasts will be the regulars.

The new Hippos will bring together Finland’s preeminent coaching expertise, top-flight research and facilities designed to meet the needs of top athletes. These facilities will be completed by the end of 2027.

At Hippos, students at Jamk University of Applied Sciences’ School of Health and Social Studies will become part of a unique learning environment in which expertise, inquisitiveness and innovations can grow in a novel manner.

The new Hippos is set to become the centre of events in Jyväskylä. At the new Hippos, music, sport, corporate gatherings and other blockbuster events will enjoy flexible facilities that make the impossible possible.

Scheduled for completion in late 2027, the new Hippos complex will become the undisputed number one venue for sports events and other arena gatherings in Jyväskylä thanks to its unrivalled versatility.

The new Hippos is located just a stone’s throw from the city centre, next door to the Alvar Aalto-designed university campus. It will be a unique entity by global standards, where dozens of sports disciplines, elite sport, study, research, businesses and events live side by side.

The complex currently under construction will comprise an ice and event centre with a multipurpose arena, a centre for sports, a centre of excellence and parking spaces. These will provide accessible and inspiring facilities to meet the needs of even the most demanding events. Hippos Finnish baseball stadium and AaltoAlvari Aquatics Centre are also located in the same area.

Multipurpose arena for major events

The Ice & event arena will have a seating capacity of approximately 6 500 for concerts. The arena will be equipped with the very latest sound systems and production equipment, and the whole arena has been designed to facilitate efficient in- and outflows, fast production work and the logistics associated with gig days.

Hippos Sports centre is ideal for events of different sizes

With its capacity of roughly 6 000 people the multi-use Sports centre will comprise a number of different spaces on two floors as well as flexible seating systems to support the activities in question. The Sports centre is also ideal as additional space for personnel, training sessions, meet & greet events and VIP activations.

Centre of excellence will welcome visitors

Access to events at the new Hippos will be arranged via the Centre of excellence. The cloakroom and restaurant services as well as attractive passageways to the event spaces make arrival simple and fast. Even where major gatherings are concerned the public do not need to queue outside.
